Kofi Bentsi-Enchill developed a keen interest in immigration law after his personal experience with the rigors of the U.S. immigration process, first as a foreign student and later as an applicant for Adjustment of Status, and finally Naturalization. Mr. Bentsi-Enchill was born in Accra, Ghana. He left his native country as a teenager and lived independently for several years in the United Kingdom before attending university in the United States.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1987 and was awarded his Juris Doctor degree in 1990 from the University of California at Los Angeles. He has been admitted to the California and North Carolina State Bars. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Mecklenburg County Bar.
Mr. Bentsi-Enchill has practiced insurance defense, civil litigation, worker’s compensation and immigration law, and was previously a Senior Associate and trial attorney with the law firm of Ivie, McNeill & Wyatt in Los Angeles where he worked as a law clerk while attending law school.
In 1998, Mr. Bentsi-Enchill relocated from California to North Carolina and went into private practice as a sole practitioner. His practice currently focuses primarily on Immigration and Naturalization, representing clients throughout the United States and beyond. Mr. Bentsi-Enchill provides representation and assistance in connection with non-immigrant and immigrant visas and citizenship matters, including VAWA and Asylum cases. He has significant experience in family and employment-based immigration law, and has successfully represented individual and corporate clients before the Bureau of Citizenship & Immigration Services and the Department of Labor.
Mr. Bentsi-Enchill has been invited to lecture at seminars sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers and speak to a number of immigrant groups about various immigration issues. He has also provided low cost legal services to indigent immigrants in collaboration with immigrant groups and has been a guest on local Hispanic radio shows discussing recent developments in immigration law.
